A Charlie Chaplin Flim
78. Modern Times (1936)- This is the first Charlie Chaplin film on the list. It was the last movie Charlie made as his "Little Tramp" character (the hat, mustache, big shoes, and funny walk). It is the second silent film on the list. However, it wasn't really all the silent. It was however pretty good. Charlie Chaplin stared, wrote, directed, and produced it, much like a lot of his movies. It is the first Charlie Chaplin movie I have ever seen and I look forward to seeing more. The story was light hearted even though it dealt with poverty, jail, death, and unemployment. It did not make you feel down or sad. It was fun and left you with a very positive feeling. Charlie leaves his "Little Tramp" legacy with a girlfriend and lots of hope. Definitely worth checking out. I give it a Thumbs Up!

The 1st Western
79. The Wild Bunch (1969)- Ugh, where do I begin? First of all how this western made it past the twenty movies that came before it is beyond me! There are a few things I do not like in movies unless Brad Pitt is in the middle of them ... westerns, dirtiness, gun fights, and bloodshed. Needless to say if you do not like those as well, you won't like this movie. The plot was hard to follow and too many of the characters looked like each other. There were about four different groups of men/outlaws you had to try to focus on, and it ended up being a big old jumbled mess. Aging outlaws? Who wants to watch that? There were too many scenes where everyone just started laughing (when you wouldn't really laugh!), the blood looked like red paint, the camera angles were all fast, and again there was unnecessary boobage! Who wants to see a baby getting nursed on an unhappy Mexican woman? The only thing I did enjoy about this western were the fun nick-names they had when they were trying to insult one another. Most were too inappropriate to type here. I stay entertained through most movies, especially ones I have never seen. When I watch a movie, and a few days later I can't remember anything about it... then I know it either wasn't good or wasn't to me liking. I have a feeling I won't remember this movie come tomorrow. I give this movie a BIG TWO THUMBS DOWN!

Almost All Caught Up...
Last of playing catch up! After this post I will be all done with the 80's section! After this post I will be posting once a week, giving my reviews and opinions of the next 80 movies! Wow...
84. Easy Rider (1969)- Ugh... I realize my brain is slowly blocking out this movie. Better write my review fast! Apart from a young, drunk Jack Nicholson... this movie BLOWS! I know it was supposed to be some major break through and a really big deal, but I didn't get it. The story was lame, it was slow and weird! Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper wrote and starred in this melancholy film where *SPOILER ALERT* they all die in the end... and get this... because they were bikers! A nasty red-neck with a weird growth on his neck shoots them both while driving down the highway... Unrealistic shot and unrealistic to think I would ever watch this movie again. TWO THUMBS DOWN!
83. Titanic (1997)- Who doesn't love a young Leonardo DiCaprio? I sure did when this movie first came out! And Kate Winslet isn't too bad herself. If you were alive when this movie came out... chances are you have seen it! If not you should... besides the eye candy of Leo's character Jack Dawson, the movie has a lot of Titanic history! Watch it! Two Thumbs Up!
82. Sunrise (1927)- This is the first silent movie on the list! Funny story... my husband and I thought it was going to be 2 hours and 53 minutes because that is what Netflix says it's going to be! We were wondering how we were going to handle an almost three hour silent film! However, it turned out to only be about a hour and a half... and it was pretty good! I didn't know if I would like silent movie, but it was really fun to watch and talk with silly voices! The story of a man that was having an affair, decided to kill his wife to be with his mistress, changes his mind, falls back in love with his wife, and then almost loses her to storm on the sea... was a little odd. However, it was surprisingly entertaining and I am glad we saw it! A Thumbs Up!
81. Spartacus (1960)- " I AM SPARTACUS"... no not really but this movie was pretty good. Similar to Ben Hur... Spartacus is a slave in old Roman times. However, Jesus doesn't come for Spartacus. The movie is kind of sad and a little dark... but you love Kirk Douglas as Spartacus through out the whole movie, butt chin and all. Definitely not for children, but if you are in the mood for a serious, epic, butt kicking film, this would be a good movie for you! Again, another one I would have never seen without the list... and am glad I saw it! Thumbs Up!
80. The Apartment (1960)- Oh, I was excited to see this movie! Love Jack Lemmon! Love Shirley MacLaine! However, I was expecting this movie to be just another silly old fun movie. It was good... but it wasn't another silly old fun movie! It had its more serious tone and was definitely more sophisticated than I expected. My favorite part of the movie was the young Jack Lemmon playing C.C. Baxter, asking Shirley MacLaine's character if she liked his hat. She was distracted and he replied, "Did I make a boo boo?" The rest of the movie you kind of felt bad for Baxter and wanted him to get some dignity which he did at the end. Definitely deserved its Academy Award for Best Picture! Big Thumbs Up!
Well, ladies and gents we are all caught up! This Sunday is Modern Times with Charlie Chaplin. So we will see how that goes... Oh side not my husband and I watched Away We Go this weekend. Not on the list obviously , but really fun and good. If you like Little Miss Sunshine you would like that movie... anywho be back next week! :)

It is never ending...
First of all... Thank you to all my friends and my mom for commenting on my blog! That is so awesome! I am glad you guys are reading it! I'll try to add in your names if I think you should watch the movie! Haha! Ok, so on to the next set to get caught up...
89. The Sixth Sense (1999)- So no big surprise here... I think everyone and their grandmother knows how this movie ends. I had seen bits and pieces but never the whole thing all at once. It was good. It is kind of hard to watch though, after you know the ending. Some things just don't really fit... but a young creepy Mischa Barton is always fun. As well as Toni Collette... she is fab! Big Thumb Up!
88. Bringing Up Baby (1938)- Ok, well who doesn't love Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant? I have loved Katharine Hepburn since I first watched Guess Who's Coming to Dinner with my mom. (Which used to be number 99 on the original AFI greatest movies in 1997... little peeved about that one.) Anyways, this movie was fun and surprisingly about a pet leopard getting lost. Not at all what I thought it was about... an actual baby. My husband didn't enjoy it as much as me because it went on a bit and got a little tiring. However, I would definitely watch it again. A Thumbs Up from me!
87. Twelve Angry Men (1957)- AMAZING! I had seen this movie in one of my classes (why I can't remember) but the movie stuck. I had actually watched it with Stephen a few years ago just for fun, because that is how good it is. The movies is about twelve men on the jury for a man who allegedly killed his father. I remembered it as showing actual scenes of the crime... nope that's just how wonderfully brilliant the movie is. They never leave the court room! Henry Fonda is awesome (just don't think about his real life family and how dysfunctional they were), the guy who does Piglet's voice also talks a lot, and the grandfather in the Problem Child movies is also in the gang. Brilliant, awesome, one of my favorite with or without the list! Two Thumbs Up!
86. Platoon (1986)- Now, I for one liked learning about the Vietnam War. The whole 70's era has always been really interesting to me. I could have skipped this movie and Charlie Sheen. However, interestingly enough the guy who is Paul Young from Desperate Housewives and one of the Docs from Scrubs is in it. Other than that... this movie didn't do much for me. Blood, guts, war, rape, drugs, and no humor... no thank you! I am sure it was rather realistic... but aren't movies to get away from reality! Two Big Thumbs Down!
85. A Night At The Opera (1935)- This is the first Marx brother film on the list and the first I had ever seen. It was rather funny, but sometimes the one liners were never ending. They even made it a little difficult to follow the story of the movie. Still, it was pretty good. My husband and I did not know that Groucho's facial hair was painted on... including his eye brows... odd. If you like black and white, silly humor, and a lot of physical comedy this movie is for you! I give it a big ole' hand!
I hope people keep reading... more to come asap!

Still Playing Catch Up
95. The Last Picture Show (1971)- If only I could get this movie out of my head! Except for the fun of seeing a very young Cybill Shepard, Randy Quaid, Cloris Leachman, and Jeff Bridges this movie is a bust! The synopsis makes a viewer think it is going to be a good ole' small town movie about a picture show going out of business... nope. It is about adultery, family dysfunction (cybill's character sleeps with the man her mother is having an affair with... and tries to get with a whole bunch of other people as well), death, alcohol, war, and small town blues. Oh, and it also included unnecessary boobage (once from a scene with a whole bunch of teens in a naked pool party... not as fun as it sounds). Two Thumbs Down!
94. Pulp Fiction (1994)- If you like Quentin Tarantino, you will like Pulp Fiction. I for one am kind tired of his obsession with the Samaria sword, but Bruce Willis kicking butt of some nasty, prejudice, red-neck molesters was fun. John Travolta is always a fav (minus some of his later movie picks) and Samuel L. was a hoot. Yes, it was violent... but Quentin always makes it fun. If you like Kill Bill... you'll like this one. Also this was the second movie on the countdown that included Samuel L. Jackson (first was as a DJ in Do the Right Thing). This movie gets a Thumbs Up from me!
93. The French Connection (1971)- Following a Quentin Tarantino flick, this movie makes you think that it is where he got his inspiration. It is a true story about a drug deal from France, hence the name. The first scene is a guy who gets shot right in the face! That will wake you up! The rest of it was kind of a snooze fest! Gene Hackman was cranky and I prefer Roy Scheider in Jaws. There a famous chase scene which lasted too long and the movie was gloomy. I guess they made a sequel... not a surprise to me that it didn't make the list. A Big Thumbs Down!
92. Goodfellas (1990)- Watching a movie a week from this list can really warp your opinions. If I saw this movie and was not watching the list, I wouldn't care for it too much. However, compared to some of the movies before it, it wasn't that bad. Yes it was violent, and drug-filled and Ray Liotta turned into a big bummer... but other than that it wasn't too bad. I prefer Joe Pesci as cousin Vinny and a nicer Robert De Niro... but we can't get our way all the time. This was also the third time Samuel L. showed his face on the list. However, he didn't last long in this movie. If you want to be a drugged up gangsta... this movie is for you! No Thumbs Up or Down... it just gets a Hand.
91. Sophie's Choice (1982)- Now, I love Meryl Streep. I love movies about the Holocaust. Therefore, it isn't a shocker that I had seen this movie before. It is also not a shocker... that I blocked most of it out. If someone really did go through the Holocaust and have to choose a child to die, and then never saw their other one (which I am sure really happened) I am sure they turned out like Sophie in this movie. She would be emotionally damaged, date a mean Kevin Kline and end up in horrible, emotionally dysfunctional life. Not one of my favs for the big screen. I can see how it is a classic and Meryl did AMAZING. However... I prefer Kevin Kline in romantic comedies and the narrator, Peter MacNicol as the weird museum guy in Ghostbusters 2. Big Thumbs Down!
90. Swing Time (1936)- I like older movies, and surprisingly I had never seen a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movie before. So I was excited! If they had kept dancing the whole time, I would have liked it a lot more. The whole thing was rather odd to me. Fred was going through a major crisis having missed his wedding and needing to get a ton of money to win back his fiance. However, he never let a smile leave his face. Big surprise that he doesn't wed his fiance and falls madly in love with Ginger's character. In reality everyone should have been pissed off and stressed through this entire movie... and it ended with everyone laughing! Including the man that supposedly loved Ginger's character and was broken up with 5 seconds before the credits rolled. It was upbeat and the dancing was awesome... but they should have just kept dancing! Another No Thumbs Up and No Thumbs Down... just a Hand.
more catching up to do tomorrow...

Playing Catch Up
I got the idea to watch AFI's 100 greatest movies early in 2009. I was getting ready to get married, and thought it would be a fun thing for me and my new husband to do together every Sunday night. I always have had a love for movies. Some people know everything you could know about cars. I do not know anything about cars (all I notice is the color), but I love movies. I know actors and actresses and the Oscars are like a holiday for my mom and I. However, there are a lot of movies I have never seen (and never really wanted to see), but what kind of movie lover would I be if I didn't watch or know the greatest movies of all time? A few months later it was June, I was married, and signed up for netflix. Let the movie watching begin!
I didn't think to do this blog until about twenty movies into the 100 greatest list. So I will have to play catch up to get this blog updated. I don't expect to really have anyone read my blog, or actually ever see my blog, but I want to remember the movies the best I can. After twenty weeks it is getting kinda rough to remember 100 and 99. So there is the explanation... here are my personal and unprofessional reviews...
100. Ben-Hur (1959)- Everyone can go look up information about the movie, so this blog won't really focus on movie facts. Just personal opinion here! Charlton Heston was the star of this biblical classic. I really enjoyed this movie, surprisingly. I am not one for big epic war-like films (unless it includes Brad Pitt) but this movie was really interesting to me. With a little cameo by Jesus himself, the movie was actually pretty upbeat and had a good feeling to it once it was over. It is definitely one off the list that I am glad I saw. I would have never seen this movie otherwise, and I would have been missing out. Thumbs Up!
99. Toy Story (1995)- Who doesn't love Toy Story? Buzz, Woody... Ham! This was definitely not my first time seeing this movie... and I doubt it would be any of yours. If you haven't see this Disney classic, get on it! Two Thumbs Up!
98. Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942)- With these movies being the first three on the list, my husband and I definitely got spoiled fast! This was another movie I would never have seen if I wasn't watching the list. I would have definitely missed out. An older musical, filmed in black and white, this movie was funny, heartwarming and wonderful. My husband and I still randomly burst out in song singing, "Over There". I am a fan of musicals, and yet I still probably would have never seen this movie if it weren't on the list. It is a new fav in our house. Two Thumbs Up!
97. Blade Runner (1982)- Our spoiled streak is over. I know a lot of people (men) like this movie. It is supposed to be a classic and new for its time. I couldn't get over the fact that it was supposed to be set in the future, but all the TVs still looked like they were from 1982. They could make replicants and travel to other planets, but their TVs were small, fuzzy, and boxy. Besides the TVs it was dark, gloomy, full of killing, and unnecessary boobage. A Big Thumbs Down!
96. Do The Right Thing (1989)- I had not even heard of this movie before I saw it on the list. How it made the list or beat out the previous five is beyond me. Not one of my favs. The opening scene to this early Spike Lee movie was an entire song with a young Rosie Perez doing some crazy dance moves. Longest, weirdest intro ever! This movie also contained unnecessary boobage and death. Not one of my new favorite movies. Probably will never watch ever again... rage, heat, ghetto, and death are really not up my alley. Two Thumbs Down!
